It always feels like the beginning and the end of anything you do is (dare I say it) simple…
In the beginning, you’ve got people cheering you on and by the time you reach the finish line you’re cheering yourself on.
But what about the MIDDLE?
That's where things can go dark, am I right?
You look behind you and there’s no one there to cheer you on (everyone else is dealing with there own MIDDLE) and you look ahead and just can't quite see the light yet.
All you have is the MIDDLE – and it's a scary place to be.
If you're like most of us, you start wondering what you're doing there in the first place.
Does any of this resonate with you right now?
One thing I've learned from working with clients running start-ups, or leaders launching a new venture, from within an established organization, is that:
SUCCESS IS FORMED IN THE MIDDLE
That's why it's so important, when embarking on your entrepreneurship journey, to have a process in place before you start – and accountability to get you through the middle so you can blaze through it as quickly as possible.
If you want, you can use my 7-step process – I use this repeatedly with my clients and it really works:
Be Specific – Be very clear on what you want to achieve and why you want to achieve it. During the MIDDLE, the why will provide much needed motivation
Identify the Risk – Determine what you risk losing if you do not achieve your goal
Announce the Goal – By announcing your intentions publicly, you make it very hard to quit. People are now watching, and success becomes a source of pride.
Plan for a Fight – Build 2 plans: A plan for success and a plan on how you will deal with all obstacles. Overcoming obstacles is always part of the journey
Be Single-Minded – Roadblocks, curveballs, red-herrings, whatever you want to call them will be everywhere. Keep your eye on the prize.
Celebrate Small Milestones – Take the small wins and celebrate them. Reaching and passing these milestones means that you are getting closer and closer to the goal.
Review, Revamp, and Repeat – When it’s all said and done, and the goal is achieved, perform a post-mortem and review what went well, revamp what didn’t work and repeat the improved process on your next project.
Remember that a consistent pace and a positive mindset will get you to the finish line.
